Chapters

Exchanging bodily information, gestures, and formal impressions through the atypical palms of two creators seeking to understand the aesthetics of inability.

In the duet "Chapters" the unique structure of the performers' palms is photographed in close-up. In one, arthritis creates a clear change in the shape of the palms, and in the other, palms characterized by a shortened range of motion and lack of movement in the fingers as a result of paralysis. Their particular dance is shown in real time on a television screen. Later, in a zoom-out, the relationship between the hands and the various bodies receives a broader performative expression.

Two people are seen in silhouette striking dynamic, expressive poses against a warm, orange background. Their figures are dramatically outlined, with one person raising an arm and the other making a gesture near their head.
