How did human external movement develop?

That is, how did humans develop the use of means other than their own bodies to move themselves?

The donkey and the horse were the first animals domesticated for riding – 4000 BC

Use of a chariot pulled by oxen – 3100 BC

Chariot for military use – 2700 BC
